Hello, Fish

HelloHal: Halból a legjobb! Best Fish in Hungarian!

Hello Hal Fishbar located in a food bustling part of Pest is certainly distinguishing itself. As you enter the place you are welcomed by a magnificent wooden setting, a delightful marriage of home coziness with pillows at windows and the luxuries of modernity. Almost at once my gaze fell on the big wall decoration showing the map of fish places. This is a lovely idea that catches your attention. The wooden décor allows the simplistic beauty of food to shine, though beauty is not the only thing bringing folks to Hello Hal.

The menu offers a wide variety of mouth-watering fish dishes. There are not many places in Hungary where you can taste fish since its national cuisine is mostly meat-oriented.  Therefore this place is of particular interest to me as I am a seafood lover. I like Hello Hal and would like to become its ambassador to advertise it to locals and tourists.

Kiváló hely, isteni ízek, kiváló személyzet. Komoly gasztronómiai projekt unikális a magyar piacon. Csak így tovább!

A Little Village

AnRoalisticBlog top story

I happened to pay a visit to a little village at the river…

Begin.jpg

The local Hungarians who are lucky to live at the north bank of Danube always said: “Visegrad has the castle, but Nagymaros has the view”.  I totally agree with it.

Nagymaros Photos at Shutterstock

The ferry between Nagymaros and Visegrád, which is in service since May 1890, brought me to the opposite side of Danube. I confess I enjoyed this little river voyage and could not resist making several pictures. The port building – where the restaurant Maros is settled now -was built at the beginning of the 20th century by the shipping company.

Second.jpg

A first reference to the village is in a document from the 13th century when the king joined it to Visegrád, one of the royal residential centers of those days. Today Nagymaros with its more than 4 000 inhabitants and its infrastructure functions as a small center of the area between Vac (the next bigger town) and the Slovakian border.

Every village or city has its main square, Nagymaros is of no exception. FŐ TÉR (or main square in English) looks now almost as 150 years ago. The only missing element in its architectural look, as I heard, is the Casino with a restaurant and hotel rooms, which was destroyed in 1944.

Third New.jpg

I read that the Gothic tower (built in 1509) of the Roman Catholic Church is the only  monument in the Danube bend, which remained from the Middle-Ages. It has its saint who is St Martin, the bishop of Tours (France). He was born in the 4th century in the western part of today’s Hungary and he has been always a very popular saint among Hungarian Catholics. Church is closed, so you may take a look at it only.

At the end of my trip around the village I spotted a charming gallery and cafe where I ordered a cup of aromatic cappuccino. There were not too many people, so I chose the table at the terrace where I could enjoy warm sunny weather. I felt happy while sitting at this home-like cafe sipping my sweet drink.

Thank you for joining me!

Many photos from this village can bu purchased via Nagymaros Photos at Shutterstock or later at my gallery Pictorem.

Did you travel recently? Where have you been? What did you see?

I’d love to hear from you!

Love you all,

Invite Me To Your Favorite Place

My dear Friends,

You know how much I love making videos, but I found out that filming lovely places around the world is even more exciting.

At present,  vlogging is the hobby available for everyone who has a simple camera and an account on Vimeo or YouTube. The number of passionate travelers who discover this world through their cameras grows as fast as mushrooms after rainy days. Moreover, almost everyone tries to learn the best video editing technique and even buy a drone, which transforms a passionate hobby into a high-quality ad. But, many of them, after some time, offer the content that might be a lack of novelty. They always talk and share perfect hotels, resorts, exotic food, etc. They went to advertising that brings them money and their hobby transfers to work, their childish reaction to every new comment under videos converts to tiredness…I would not like to be such a person one day. My videos are too important to me. My purpose is to be always fresh and new, maybe not too perfect, but thought-provoking. That’s why I am working on it. That’s why I like it…

So, what is your favorite place where you are going to invite me?

IT SPEAKS IN SILENCE TO THE VERY CORE OF YOUR BEING

No matter how sophisticated you may be, a large granite mountain cannot be denied – it speaks in silence to the very core of your being” (Ansel Adams)

These mountains, my mountains, my Western Ukrainians mountains do speak to the very core of my being.

Geographically playing I dare to divide my country in four parts: eastern, western, northern and southern. I live in the Northern, while my heart usually drifts to the Western  with its rich nature and most gorgeous views ever. No matter how many times I do come back there, I still find something hidden, something captivating and new.  And this time while traveling there I found myself so attracted to these fantastic mountains that I lost my wish to come back even. The emotions caught me and would not like to leave. I was happy and so free as never and anywhere in my life. There in the middle of the field between these cute little flowers I felt myself so good and so right like I do belong to be there. Odd and confusing feeling, yet so lovely one – to find your place, the place where your heart and soul sing, where you enjoy every second and where nothing bothers you from that perfect harmony with nature and complete dissolve in it. There is so less I need, just this peaceful island where nobody can find me. My mountains will protect me from anything bad and they will accompany me in my search of silence. It does important to enjoy silence, sometimes words are not required. Mountains, powerful and unknown nature gifts can read between the lines of my soul. You just look at them and see their silent response. That is all you need. That is all I need:

What does speak to the core of your very being? Where is your island?

I believe my little film will bring you joy and peace and will make your week special!

Love you all,

PhotoThoughts Abroad: ZAKOPANE

Poland is the neighbor country to the west of Kyiv which influence has spread all over. A long border line separates nation’s minds and makes them feel strangers. What does it mean being Ukrainian? Or being Polish? Can you look for the meaning in your vocabulary? Certainly not. However, you will find the meaning for the “citizenship” and that is what exactly important. Belonging to the Planet, World, and Universe. We need to be part of something, always, as loneliness can kill us. That is why I refuse to accept borders between countries, language barriers and mind blockades. I would like to get as close as possibly to life without any of them and understand why we still remain different mentally and so identical physically. There is a strong wish to inhale this beautiful city and print it in my soul!

Polska Symbols

PhotoThought 1: Main Scenes

Welcome to Zakopane

I hope you are not tired of my postcards yet (I see your little cunning grimaces). I am not tired of designing them for you in some crazy hope that one day you might need them. It is also a terrific way to gather several photos at once and create a new common picture. The same as assembling a puzzle. Every piece takes its right place. And you look at the entire picture differently, right? The same when I look at the picture above. This is the collective image of Polish city called Zakopane. A very nice city situated in the southern part of Poland almost at the border between Slovakia and Poland attracts every hiker’s attention. You will find there so many routes to walk and so many breathtaking views to capture. In my postcard I decided to focus on little details such as local parks, monuments, and houses. They do not belong to the main attractions, however, they represent local habits and traditions better. Seeing these scenes brings me closer to Polish culture and people. I am eager to catch its specific mountain atmosphere. Air is different here; nature is different as well as atmosphere. It is a typical mountain city where tourism is the most popular occupation. A number of hotels, villas, cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops goes off scale. It is a real tourist resort crowded most of the time. However, there are some narrow streets that can draw the curtain and let you peep through secret hole. Then you are lucky to observe a completely different picture!

PhotoThought 2: Mountains

White Mountains

Only mountains can be better than the mountains.  This is the love from the first breathe. Air in the mountains is fresh and intoxicating.

It is always the same with mountains. Once you have lived with them for any length of time, you belong to them. There is no escape.’ (Ruskin Bond)

And you would not like to escape from them, you prefer staying there forever, just to look at them endlessly. Here there is no time, no distance, no hurry, only they and I. There is almost intimate bond between us. This is a teaser for you, my little Friends, as I made a lot of pictures about mountains and so many breathtaking views.  Be patient!

PhotoThought 3: Countryside

Zakopane walks

In this postcard I am particularly fond of two goats: white and black. Aren’t they look cute? A couple or two family members. They seem to be curious about me and my camera. I can’t stand not taking a snap of them.  I suppose they suit the entire atmosphere perfectly…

I saw rivers, small houses, fields and gardens. This city is very different from any mountain city in Ukraine. It is visible that people here live much better. While sitting in the local cafe I saw Polish happy faces and felt a bit envy. Please forgive me for being too honest with you, but I wish I could see my Ukrainians the same happy and free one day. Surely, my country is not that hopeless and if everyone does its best it can be really changed for the better, however, it will be a long way. And I would not like to wait so much. Unfortunately, I am a realist as well and see not too much positive. In fact people, my Ukrainians, do surprise me every day with their indifference and rudeness. Even worse, they make me also being indifferent and rude…and that scares me the most!

PhotoThought 4: Houses

How about sit comfortably in these red chairs and enjoy the…houses? I confess I have never seen such a gorgeous and unusual style. These houses drew my attention at once. I could not go by without shooting them. And those windows with colorful flowers and designed yards. Owners prove they are skillful at design. They are proud of beautifully decorated yards. As you may see almost all houses are wooden, a distinctive sign of the mountain region. It brings us back in time: when people could not afford themselves anything better than a humble wooden house. They made their houses from wood found in forests. There were too many forests at those times. On the contrary, nowadays these mansions are a privilege for people with impressive bank accounts. I would not refuse to settle in one of them and you? Just imagine a romantic scene near your fireplace…hmm…I bet you won’t refuse!

Houses in Zakopane

And now tell me something interesting about the city where you live. I am hungry for your comments, impressions and stories. Only one problem – this time I cannot promise you any reward, since your writer was not so successful recently. In my heart I would like to present you something every time you share with me your wonderful story, but I have no good sponsor or investor…yet.

In case you have no good idea what to present your friends or you need to find something special for somebody, here is the link to my designs available for you:

Also if you like any of my postcards design, but in your head you imagine your own photos in them, please let me know and I will design for you.  I am also eager to help to design some special card for any special occasion. Give me a hint in the comment or in twitter ann021814 (facebook Ann AnRo) and I’ll contact you as soon as possible!

Stay in tune! To be continued…

Happy weekend, my little Friends!

Yours Ann

Recently I have seized an opportunity to visit one of the family businesses dealing with cheese production. A lovely experience worth of being shared with you, right? I confess I felt very curious about it and even more than it is allowed. It is a known fact that family businesses during good economic times don’t earn as much money as companies with a more dispersed ownership structure. But when the economy slumps, family firms far outshine their peers. While visiting this small cheese business I came almost to the same conclusion. This family has a good place to work and live. Just look at the surroundings shown in the pictures, isn’t it Heaven? Their house is located in the mountain region. It is calm and no fumes. Imagine how cows roam free in this fresh air and graze in lush pastures of tender grass. There is milk in fresh air and what amazing taste it should have. I tasted that cheese and YUM, it was delicious! I bet you would love it. Choice is big and for every caprice. For a short moment I caught myself of being envy of them. I realized that family business is the best venture where everybody works hard and doesn’t waste time for intrigues. Yeah, exactly, in huge corporate office people do only one thing well, they scheme against each other. They are waiting when you mess it up. Everyone tries to find out whether your salary is not bigger than his/her…and that’s only the tip of an iceberg! Family business concentrates mostly on their profits, thus they understand that team work is important. They are oriented at fulfilling their goals and helping each other. It feels good, isn’t it? I confess I would like the same and who won’t? Working hard in the circle of your family and friends seems ideal to me. And for you? Don’t be shy, tell me…please…please!

I suppose I became so involved with this topic that forgot to introduce you my new idea or, better to say, project. My previous posts have been already devoted to postcards I designed, however, I had no idea what to do further with them. Accidentally I came across some website who offers photographers and designers to sell their creations through their internet shops, I did hesitate a lot before making a decision. I am still not sure whether it was a good idea, but I gave it a try. I place my first postcard and greeting designs officially here:http://www.redbubble.com/people/anrostudio/works/22058357-lake-mirroring

And now would like to present them to you!

I kindly (very very) ask you to let me know whether you like them! My initial plan was to sell my postcards at Ebay and deal with shipping on my own, but I faced high shipping prices and thought that prices for postcards won’t be cheaper than those ones at this webshop. Perhaps you know some better, more personal, solution to this problem. I am grateful for any advice! It seems Redbubble starts printing and shipping in time and provides constant notification of your order.

Card Rabbit

You might ask why I decided to deal with such a competitive field where I have almost no chance, I will reply you that my postcards are yet different from usual ones. Bulk greeting cards business is aimed at earning money, while I almost earn no money since webshop does printing and shipping and takes money for it. My cards give me a possibility to release my creative energy and maybe showing you something what you have not seen yet. These cards are designed firstly in my head and only then typed on a screen. It is a long way to implementation of my dreams and projects intended to brighten every singly moment of life, yours and mine. That is my road to be explored and which is yours???

Love you all,

Yours Ann

From Kyiv With Love (Episode 2)

Dnipro

Mikhail Bulgakov, author of the famous Master and Margarita, who was born in Kyiv, said about Ukrainian capital and one of the oldest cities in Europe: “There is no more beautiful city in the world than Kyiv“. And he was right. If you look at this photo above, what do you see? I can tell you honestly that it seems to me that this is not that Kyiv, which I get used to. No, certainly, not. My fantastic photo-expert Nicki-Ticki with its technological super power has transformed this city into something too unbelievable. Doesn’t it looks like some American city? Exactly…but we are not in USA (unfortunately), we are in the center of Ukraine, its capital – Kyiv. However, Kyiv cannot exist without its river Dnipro. Would not you like a dive? Yeah, I know in the beginning of November, last autumn month, it is not wisdom. Though sometimes I hear news that some young girls or boys make attempts (and even did it) to commit a suicide by diving into this endless blue over an unrequited love. It is a sad fact, of course. I wish an unrequited love could not find place on our Planet. Life is too short. Folk, I kindly ask you – do not fell in love with wrong people, is it possible to arrange? For my sake!

Bridge Through Dnipro

Dnipro is the largest river in Ukraine and the third largest in Europe. From the dawn of history the Dnipro has been closely bound up with the life of Ukrainian people. It is the ‘holy river’ of Ukraine and its artery. Dnipro was known as the Borysthenes to the ancient Greeks and Romans.  It became an important route in medieval times, when it became part of the Varangian route between the Baltic Sea and Byzantium across the Black Sea. Nowadays it is an important route from work to home and back 334 days per year for most of Ukrainians(31 day usually they stay at home for vacation).

Car Bridge

Dnipro divides Kyiv into two banks: right and left. The right part of the city is so-called business and elite center. People who can afford living on the right bank of the river are quite rich. I think that there is not so many of them. Approximately 10%, I already see your faces, yes, yes, my dear ones, 90% of the population, let’s say, is not that rich. 10% of oligarchs just control almost everything and they “care” about other people. They do not let us relax and this is good, since life is a constant motion. Usual Ukrainians cannot go for pension sooner and they should work till they can, I suppose this “wisdom” 10% increases our working life, which is and indubious boost for so many people. What can they do without it? Sitting at home and knitting socks, they will die from boredom.

Dnipro Dock

It has its own dock where many yachts hang out. We are definitely not in Venice, so boats are pretty small and not so popular here, but if you would like to go for a boat trip along the river it can be organized. Any caprice for your money! What’s more have you ever seen river locks? No, this can’t happen! Then, today is your lucky chance! You are lucky Luke or Beth or …what’s your name? Dnipro has several locks and one of them brings you directly to Kyiv Sea (well, not natural, but artificial), so bring your swimming suits! We are going to have fun at Kyiv beaches in November, can you believe it?

Dnipro Beaches

Aha, as I see this couple has already had fun and now they are standing almost at the beach (not exactly, why they did not wear swimming suits?) and enjoy each other. Isn’t it romantic? Just look at them! I know I had no right to peep at my camera hole and capture them, but, hey, they look so good together. This November river breeze (a bit chilly, but not so spicy) evoked some warm feelings in their hearts and they hugged each other in pleasure. Or not so romantic variant – they are pretty cold and would like to warm themselves up. It is up to you to choose! Honestly, I find this man more handsome than that woman.  Although his hairdresser was not in his bad mood last time. Hey, dude, you need a better one! Ok, ok, I know I like criticizing people, including myself, but this is because I love them all! And I love you too! Oh, I am in such love mood today. Is there is something in the air? Some love gases….ha-ha!

Ukrainian Couple

Coming back to serious! Ann tried to be funny.

Locks on the river are pound locks,  a type used almost exclusively on canals and rivers.Unfortunately, I did not make a picture of this lock, but you know writers, they can describe everything in the most fruitful way. Yep, we are the word magicians, so where my magical mouse and keyboard. Here we go…

Our boat passes through the second and oldest lock during the day and it is quite an experience for you  who rushed on desk with cameras, and locals who stood above the lock watching and waving.  Ships enter a lock through “hanging gates” into the pound with gates at the other end. Once in the pound, “hanging gates” are closed and the water level is either raised or lowered to river level. The end gates are then opened and we slowly sail out onto the river again. Did you imagine? Hope I covered it well! I highly recommend you to come and experience it. As it is said it is better to see once than to hear a thousand times”.

Little Islands

I like this shot so much. Just take a look at these colors as if painted by a very gifted artist.

When evening comes, Kyiv turns into a magical, romantic place lit up by old-fashioned street lamps, architectural lighting and even a touch of neon. Looking over the city in the evening, at its murmuring fountains, gleaming monuments, and the reflective dark waters of the Dnipro, makes me feel relaxed. This evening photo is not of the best quality since my Nicki-Ticki did not have his friend Trip and at his disposal was his owner hands, shaking ones…so sorry! Sunset was so bright that almost blinded me. In this picture you can see one of “sleeping” districts of our big city. Buildings here are high, most of them have more than 20 stores and elevators always in need for repair. Local habitants get used to do sport every day, upstairs and downstairs. In case you see Ukrainians with muscular legs you know what’s behind it!

Blur Sunset

It seems I can talk endlessly about Kyiv, but you are too tired now. Tell me honestly it is too difficult to read my long posts! I wish I could compose shorter sentences. Brevity is the soul of wit. But that’s not about me. The less people think, the more they talk – THAT is exactly about me! Have fun! Happy Thursday! I had such fun with you, Folks!

To be continued (Didn’t you expect?).

Yours Ann

P.S. Do not forget to criticize me!
