From Kyiv With Love (Final Episode)

How do you do, my little Fellows! Let me congratulate you – it’s Weekend! Let’s celebrate! And I decided to present you my last post devoted to my sweet city. I guess our trip around my city is going to its end. I assure you that I did not show you all the attractions, however, I am not going to stop providing you with interesting information on my city and country as a whole. This series ends and new ones will be born. So, be patient, my dear Fellows, and you will hear a lot about the place which I love so much. And I remember my promise to start this post with your comments about the picture with a Ukrainian girl…I actually was very impressed with your ideas and thank you so much for being so attentive:

Being Ukrainian

My dear Friend, beleznai wrote: ” In picture I see a woman who protects Kiev, or maybe all Ukraine! Such person nowadays is very necessary for Ukraine! Who can be her? Maybe You? From your posts, I know, that You can be the right person for sure! I vote for You!”

Oh, it was really very sweet to compare me with this woman. Hope I do deserve it!

Lovely Maverick ~ shared his idea: “The young lady in the mural perhaps is representing hope for the future.”

I agree with you, dear Maverick, and I hope this girl will look only brighter as well as future for my Ukraine.

Jo from restlessjo recognized very well: ” It’s a wonderful photo, with the people busying about in the foreground”.

So well-noticed, dear Jo!

A wisdom woman who likes history Millie from milliethom suggested: “The final picture to me shows a ‘Mother Gooddess’ type of figure (or perhaps a famous woman from Kyiv’s history) who nurtures, cares for and protects her city and its people. One of her arms is cradling the city, the other is perhaps lifting a child out of harm’s way, or simply just answering his questions”.

That’s so right, dear Millie, she is a mother who would like to protect her land from intruders.

And the last, but not least, from my very dear Jim Noonan, who is my favorite writer: “In the photo I see a woman, a mother of timeless beauty, nurturing an ancient and thriving city at her breast, holding the future in her hand, her feet rooted in the earth, her head reaching to the stars”.

That was amazing, dear Jim, you found the soul of this picture! I am applauding you!

All your thoughts and ideas are so thoughtful and right, in this picture I see my Ukraine, who is a young 24-years-old girl, innocent and fragile, anybody can hurt her. Or maybe i  just look at the mirror…how odd?

Golden Gates

We cannot finish our trip around Kyiv without seeing Golden Gates. Golden Gate in Kiev is the monument of fortified building of 12 century, one of few, which remained till our times. The construction amazed with its greatness and inaccessibility. However, they are not made of gold as you may see in the picture. It can be a bit disappointing, but, in fact, the gates, at which you are looking now, were renovated in 1982.  Kiev Golden Gate was simultaneously a tower and a triumphal arch that leads to main “aristocratic street” of the city. I can imagine how many-many centuries ago Ukrainian cream of society in their decorated carriages was entering these gates. Did not they look graceful and proud of their rich carriages? The wide street was full of elegantly dressed women in shiny carriages escorted by their men. Dashing officers rode on fine horses alongside the carriages…The only problem that my photo camera was not there to capture all this beauty and show it to you!

Opera House

Well, let’s go back to Earth or go upper to the Mount Olimpus. We are standing in front of the Opera House – a kingdom of two charming muses Melpomene and Terpsichore, known for their love to music and dances. This is their castle, here they can feel themselves like at home. If you do not have enough drama in your life, then you should come here. Repertiore is very divergent from classical operas to modern ballet performances. The history of the National Opera House goes back to 1867.  In February 1896 during the morning performance the fire erupted in the Opera House from the unextinguished candle and just in few hours building was almost fully destroyed. The solemn opening of new Opera House building in Kiev took place on September 29 in 1901. New exterior of building was constructed and designed in Neo-Renaissance style, interior of Opera house – in a classical style called Viennese Modern. The most outstanding part of the construction – is the Opera stage that is one of the largest in Europe. In case you are in Kyiv, do not miss the chance to visit it, you will love it. Lots of people enjoy opera because the singers have such strong, polished voices. Even without microphones, their voices carry through entire auditoriums without missing a note…

National University

This red building looks like a symbol of Communism, isn’t it? Perhaps, that is the first thought. Actually, I have to dissapoint you, my little Friends. It is Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. This is one of the most prestige and expensive universities in the world. Honestly, I even did not dare to think about studying here. My parents never could afford it. Only children whose parents are having bank accounts in Switzerland can dream of being students of this house of knowledge. Although sometimes I feel that students who park their lexus cars next to this building are not much interested in knowledge other than just following the rules of their own society. I am afraid they pass their exams not like everybody else…ohh, I think i started to talk too much…you may feel that students in this country are spolied mother’s darlings, not all of them, I assure you! I am not and I did study, even I was among best students who graduated with red diploma (oh, I am not so modest now), however, I have been studying not here. Maybe that’s why! And now, seriously, Taras Shevchenko University is named after Taras Shevchenko, a major figure in Ukrainian literature and art. It is an institution of higher education that trains specialists in many fields of knowledge and carries out research. It is considered the most prestigious university in Ukraine and a major centre of advanced learning and progressive thinking. It consists of more faculties and departments, and trains specialists in a greater number of academic fields, than any other Ukrainian educational institution. And now let’s talk about Taras Shevchenko…his monument is right in front of your eyes!

Taras Shevchenko

Taras Shevchenko is the foremost Ukrainian poet, prose writer, painter and playwright of the 19th century. He was a major figure of the Ukrainian national revival. He was  a man of universal talent. All his life and creative work were dedicated to the people of Ukraine. The poet dreamed about the times when his country would be free, where the Ukrainian language, clture and history would be highly valued, and the people would be happy and free. Now is the 21st and Ukrainians still dream of the same, don’t you find it tragical, almost unbearable?

For me Kyiv is still one of the most mysterious and charming city, although it has been severely damaged and changed by big skyscrapers. I hardly can feel its soul and smell chestnut tree fragrances. It is painful, but modern Kyiv is associated with Chornobyl, revolutions and many ecological problems. Nevertheless, we have things to be proud of: the large number of scientific and technological achievements, humanitarian achievements and bright and talented people, known worldwide have their roots in Kyiv, Ukraine…I would like to remind you about those things and people which are the pride of their glorious city. I do not belong to this brilliant circle of famous people, but I DO LOVE my Kyiv not matter of anything and it is FOREVER…Endless Love!

Hugs from Kyiv!

Happy Sunday!

Fall of Thoughts

Fall In Sky

There is a worm that stuck in my head…and does not let me have my normal life…it bites me and always reminds me of something. So many different topics are circling in my head that I hardly can concentrate on anything. I feel stupid and useless most of the time. I will not be lyrical today, most probably I am going to be harsh and deadly serious. I would like to try to use my words as a powerful source to make you think of…many things.

Fall Curtain

Fall is in full swing and nature takes special colors to show its beauty. I wonder how talented nature is. Bright sometimes unpredictable colors are exactly right for the end of the season. Do not you see certain analogy between the end of season and end of life? And what we usually see before it? Yeah, exactly bright colors or moments of our life…or colors of another new life that is waiting for us in the unknown world… I have no intention to ignite a sparkle of some religious conflict since I do believe and have a strong faith in my heart. What I am trying to say is that fall of the season is similar to the fall of life…our life! That’s why colors of Fall are so spectacular, so blinding and hypnotizing.

Fall in Kyiv

It can be called a melancholy season which suggests so many gloomy thoughts and recalls so many blighted hopes. Weather helps us to change our mind, be moody.

For many people Fall is the time for relax after hard work in the fields. Autumn is the harvest season, a time for gathering up thoughts and ideas – a time to begin putting our lives in order. On the contrary, there is a wish to be illogical and a bit reckless. Do not plan anything, do not expect for anything, just live and enjoy. Find positive in the smallest, be happy because of the simplest! Find a perfect moment of delight and never let it go…

Fall in Delight

And then grey clouds filling the sky…

Fall of Loneliness

a moment of delight has gone and a moment of loneliness arrived…being alone not always means being physically alone, in many cases you are alone emotionally. People do not see you. It seems that loneliness is the disease of the 21st century! In actuality, the truth is that loneliness permeates all boundaries. I meet so many people who are lack of soul mates and they sometimes do not know what to do in their spare time. They have families, children and so-called friends, however, in reality they are trapped in their sense of disconnection. Loneliness has more to do with the quality of our relationships – not simply our relationship status. It’s one thing to feel lonely when you expected to. It’s quite another to be surrounded by family and a network and still feel the pangs of disconnection. The temptation is to accept our isolation, as though there are no other options.

Fall of Solutions

And then I think what can be done? How this serious problem can be solved? Unfortunately, I did not find a solution yet. It might take a lot of time. Maybe we should be just more attentive to each other and more sociable, but how to learn it and whether it is possible at all? We are so closed nowadays. We are like snails who bring their houses and hide in them anytime somebody appears on the horizon. We are afraid of talking to a stranger or even a person whom we know. We are afraid to start a conversation because somebody might think of something…and etc. We are afraid to call our friends too often because everybody is so busy. We switch on computers and use social networks where we can be honest, since nobody knows us and does not see our face. We are in a shell and not ready to get out. It is very sad, indeed.

Fall Path

Something should be done against it! There are many interesting ways and if you google, you will definitely find a huge amount of articles devoted to it. My advice is not to think about it. If such a terribly depressing idea comes to your head, then switch to something else or do something: go for a walk, gor for a vacation, call your old friends whom you have not seen for a long time, talk to a stranger (yes, let’s be more brave and decisive), watch some movie or read my post…leave me a comment and I will reply you!!!

Sunny Fall

It can be pretty awesome to be a magician and use my magical stick…then my first task is to make all people around the world not lonely…isn’t it a lovely idea? Any suggestions?

Wish you a wonderful Fall weekend!

Stay in touch,

Yours Ann

No Photos Today, Just a Poem Written on my Way

I wish Ukraine

could be called EU UA.

I wish our rail and automotive road

can be as in Europe.

I wish our standard of life

can just be a little high.

I wish I could see more often

beaming Ukrainians’ smile.

I wish I could witness

stop corruption and less crime.

I wish everybody who is guilty

no matter of title and relative sign

can be equal in everybody’s mind.

I wish my Utopian Ukraine became alive.

I have no strength to see how young boys die

and their mothers silently cry.

I wish we could receive a chance

never meet Eastern or Western demanding glance…

P.S. Sorry my dear Reader, today I am in a poetic mood. I know that I am a pure amateur, but I tried to practice a bit. Topic is very difficult and unclear for many of you, but that’s what I feel. Hope I didn’t disappoint you! Have a nice Friday!

Anna Means …

Did you recognize that many romantic heroines’ name is Anna? For example, Anna Karenina, Anna and the King, Queen Anna, Anna Rivera (Gallery Velvet), and Anna (Frozen). You may argue with me that the amount of examples is not that impressive. However, I still hold my opinion that Anna is one of the most romantic and frequently used names. Anna lives in every part of the world. You can easily meet Anna in Germany or France, Sweden or Netherlands, USA or UK. It became so popular that you can hardly avoid meeting Anna. There are different variations of this name, but meaning is always the same: sweet and charming girl.

Moreover, what is exactly behind this popular name, let’s obtain a deeper inside into its meaning. The name Anna is probably the Greek version of the Hebrew name Hannah. Both come from the common Hebrew verb (hanan), meaning to be gracious or to be compassionate. Saint Anne was traditionally the name of the mother of the Virgin Mary, which accounts for its wide use and popularity among Christians. A direct translation of this name from ancient Greek is God’s Grace. Meaning of this name is already “blessed by Lord”, no wonder that it is so commonly used in literature. Anna can be only a positive heroine. Nobody can expect that Anna can be an evil witch. NO! Such image does not appear in my head and yours?

To tell the truth, Anna has a very sensitive nature. If you ever met any girl with such a name, you cannot disagree that all Annas are very creative (not to mention the author of this post). Anna is kind and thoughtful, at the same time; she is governed more by her emotions rather than by logic or reason. Her dreamy nature can easily lead her into love affairs. Indeed, I noticed how easily Anna can be impressed with the slightest thing. She can develop a real story from tiny detail. Sometimes her imagination goes beyond the reality. She likes wearing “pink glasses”. Nevertheless, Anna can be responsible and very serious in making any decision. One of her drawback is that she likes looking for justice. Her desire for justice at any price can bring her into confrontation with beloved. She can be not enough patient or stubborn. Anna likes dreaming of … almost everything and surely of her Prince. Girls with such name idealize their chosen ones and would like to have them to be perfect. It is every indication that Anna is a passionate person who will make you to be always on guard. These women never let you relax, but you know very well that you cannot live without them.

In conclusion, every name is unique and deserves to be spoken of. I do not advertise anything and do not diminish the importance of every name. All I wanted is to get to know why this name is so frequently used to describe famous characters. It is obvious for me now; this name is so controversial that it can suit many personages, from the thoughtful and serious to capricious and adventurous.

P.S. I tried to be very unbiassed!
