The Eye of The Sea Fairy Tales

Morskie Oko

Morskie Oko (the Eye of the Sea) is the largest lake in the Tatra Mountains, Zakopane, Poland.  A long time ago here were only forests, fields and meadows. A noble Polish gentleman who called himself Sea lived here. He had a pretty daughter. One Hungarian Prince fell in love with her and asked her father for her hand. However,  such marriage was not meant to be, since the Prince was not a Pole. Once Sea had been called to set out with the king on a military expedition. Before setting off Sea had locked his daughter in the monastery and threatened to curse her if she would disobey his order and run away with the Prince. His daughter became reconciled with her lot. Thus, Prince was not ready to give up. He decided to conquer his beloved girl’s heart with the help of jewels. Forest fairies who saw all his presents predicted that Prince would be rich soon and decided to help him They showed him a secret path to the castle. Shortly afterwards Prince together with his powerful army had conquered the castle on the top of the hill and married the girl. Unfortunately, Sea did not come back from his military mission and his daughter cried so long and desperately that her tears became a lake

Morskie Oko, Zakopane

Many centuries ago local habitats thought that this lake was secretly connected with Mediterranean Sea. It was believed that trunks with gold and jewelry were traveling through that passages and arrived to the lake where seamen collected them. Therefore locals dived to this lake to look for treasures. All their efforts were useless, many of the divers had never come back…

Nowadays Morskie Oko is the most attractive lake for the tourists. It is not so easy to reach, you have to walk approximately 9 km on foot. Alternatively, you can choose a cart with horses. The lake is quite large, walking around will take some time. It is one of the most popular attractions to not only foreigners, but Polish tourists as well. You may be lucky to witness even some wedding shooting on its banks.

The Eye of the Sea is not anymore a pool of girls’ tears or a death place for gold divers, it became one of the most beautiful and important lakes to be visited. Its past mysterious pictures are mixed  with its present happy images. So many feet walked there and so many pictures made. So many legends are made up, and so many memories are stored. Perhaps mine are the modest ones, but they still made with passion for nature and its designs. I love your designs, dear Lady Nature! Thank you for the inspiration! I owe you a lot!

And what are the sources of your inspiration?

I’d love to hear your comments!

Thank you and happy Thursday!

Yours Ann

As Far As Close

Pine Greens

http://www.redbubble.com/people/anrostudio/works/22546490-pine-greens

I want to stand as close as I can to many things and be able to notice even the tiniest detail. Often it’s the details that together make a magnificent whole. In this picture the magnificent whole is the mountain covered with snow and awakened green grass, and the detail is the branch of a pine tree that is visible only in zooming. There is a big distance between them, they are as far and as close – two creations of Mother Nature. Only mountains are big enough to be caught, while a little branch is enough small to be overlooked. Similar to life. Due to daily problems circling around “how to earn, where to spend less” we miss a lot of things that are right in front of us. For instance, this little branch of pine tree whose green color touches up the picture of our being! Friends, let us not miss the details and enjoy everything that is so far and so close as well! For example, my Friday card designed specially for you! Give me a hint if you like it! Grateful in advance!

Why Do You Like Summer?

Summertime_word.jpg

I felt that I did not pay enough attention to her Ladyship Summer, I guess it’s because I am not on vacation yet. Now time to talk about summer and bring to mind why do we all like summer? Or perhaps not all of you like this hottest, craziest and sunniest period. Do not be shy, any opinion is welcome!

In case you would like to know why do I like summer, take a look here:

Sky.Lake.Flowers.word

Summer Time

Summerflavour

“Summer, after all, is a time when wonderful things can happen to quiet people. For those few months, you’re not required to be who everyone thinks you are, and that cut-grass smell in the air and the chance to dive into the deep end of a pool give you a courage you don’t have the rest of the year. You can be grateful and easy, with no eyes on you, and no past. Summer just opens the door and lets you out.”
―Deb Caletti, Honey, Baby, Sweetheart

Happy Summer! So, why DO YOU LIKE SUMMER?

The Mountains Are Calling and I Must Go

Mountains in my Heart

“The mountains are calling and I must go” (John Muir)

It is Monday and the beginning of new week full of challenges for us. Right? How are you doing?

Mountains I saw in Poland still haunt me. I constantly imagine them in my head and recall days spent next to them. The pictures presented in the postcard above are made  on the territory of the Tatra National Park on the way to Morskie Oko lake (be patient to see one of the most beautiful lake in the world). It was one of cloudy days that make you feel the mystery even stronger. It is a very big park with long distances to walk. Even the most demanding hikers can be satisfied, however, I shall not be so confident as I do not belong to their group. On the contrary, I am the laziest hiker who may choose a ride in the horse carriage other then a 9-km walk. However, dear hikers, do not frown, during my first time here I did conquer this route, thus have some faith in me. It was marvelous and I am still so proud of myself, though my feet were of the opposite opinion. Anyway, finding myself there again was so great I hardly can describe. High Tatras, a very clean and peaceful lake and…thousands of nosy tourists sitting, walking, making pictures everywhere and you have to go around lake somewhere further to the forest to find some place to eat your sandwich. Huh! This place is very popular among tourists, you probably won’t be able to stay there completely alone. Anyway, it is still charming and magical!

Mountains call me

Competition Winner Announcement

Flowertime_anr

It is Friday, July 8th, and this one is very special since I have the biggest pleasure to announce the winner of my competition set up one week ago. I would like to thank you for your fascinating stories about your names you were so kind to share with me. I am absolutely happy to read all of them, I found so much interesting about each of you and felt closer to you, my little Friends. I got a lot of comments and my face was beaming. You were truly kind and sweet, thank you so much, it does mean a lot! Every story was interesting and it was a difficult choice, but the reward is only one! I love you, my Friends!

And now I am honored to announce that the reward goes to….(drums please)…goes to…goes to…Trail Walker (Carolyn) https://skip22037.com/ who was so sweet and told us a very lovely story about her name, which took my heart at once! Thank you very much, dear Carolyn, for your amazing story and I hope my postcard will make your day a bit more special. As it was mentioned in the rules, the winner can choose a postcard that will be delivered to her home. It can be this new postcard presented today in my post or any of the postcards presented in my previous competition post. As I mentioned this is an absolutely free of charge present designed with love by me. So, dear Carolyn, my sincere  CONGRATULATIONS! YOUR REWARD IS WAITING FOR YOU!

HAPPY FRIDAY, FRIENDS! I hope you enjoyed this competition as much as I did and I look forward to having more such competitions soon. I believe that life is worth of arranging such little things and doing everything possible to make THIS DAY A BIT MORE UNIQUE AND HAPPY!

See you soon!

Yours Ann

What’s Your Name? (Competition)

My name is Ann and yours? This phrase plays an important role in every day’s life. It has a profound effect on everyone. Especially if you have an unusual name, which might be not clear from the first pronounce. It may even lead to some confusion (in case you still don’t remember his/her name) or a smile at someone’s face. Nevertheless, it is a powerful way of successful communication.

Collage

Every name is unique as its owner. In my country it is not so popular to celebrate name days, however, in Europe and other part of the world it is a wide known reason to have a party with some presents. People cannot be satisfied with only one day per year celebration (birthday), so they came to the conclusion that they need an extra one. Surely, I know that the custom originated with the Catholic and Orthodox calendar of saints, where believers, named after a particular saint, would celebrate that saint’s name day.

Cup Collage

There are really name ways to celebrate your nameday and every country competes for the most extravagant. Unfortunately, I heard only about quite typical traditions including exchange of greetings and presents for this day. I believe it could be nice to witness a very bizzare tradition of celebration with some kind of smashing cakes like Americans do for their birthdays, or “bumps” given to kids at their birthdays in UK, or in Jamaica, a person can expect to have his or her special day celebrated by having copious amounts of flour thrown at them from friends, family and occasionally random onlookers alike, or in Hungary (as well Ukraine), where following the opening of the presents all tug on the earlobes of the lucky birthday boy or girls and etc. It can be pretty nice to establish some particular traditions for namedays as well. What do you think, my little Fellows? Any weird ideas? How do you celebrate your nameday or birthday (if celebrate)? And what does your name mean?

Roses.jpg

I’d love to hear your stories…please, please! And the most interesting answers will get a reward, one of the postcards presented in this post upon your choice for free! How about it? Aren’t you interested? The winner will be announced next Friday, June 8, in the beginning of my next scheduled post. Your reward will be delivered to you via post on the address provided to me personally (secrecy guaranteed)!

I roamed the countryside searching for answers to things I did not understand.  ~Leonardo da Vinci

Summer Scene

In the end of the every working week Ann seizes the opportunity of the escape from a big city. To change the atmosphere, stop running around like a squirrel in a cage, relax and breathe. I guess it is not a bad idea. But be assured I won’t go anywhere without my Nikki. We are always in the same boat. Where I go, he goes. He has a mission, he provides me with beautiful scenes captured to share with you…

Time To Enjoy

When I go out into the countryside and see the sun and the green and everything flowering, I say to myself Yes indeed, all that belongs to me!  ~Henri Rousseau

Countryside life is in trend nowadays. People awakened to the realization that having your own private house is much comfortable and prestigious as well. As who would like to live “under constant pressure of neighbors thin walls”. No one, right! Therefore people are in search of their sanctuary to cling to. Surely not all of them, or vice versa who will stay in that multistory boxes and will spend most of their money on attractions in local parks? Yep, local businesses won’t survive such a loss. Although sometimes (more often than you can imagine) I feel quite irritated while walking home though the corridor of park attractions starting from “have a ride” locomotive driving around not too big park to food tents selling unhealthy stuff. You practically have to maneuver not to touch anything or catch anything. I do not mention electrical cars for children, since none of the drivers have a driving license yet, you hardly can avoid a collision. Surely I admire young driving ladies in pink dresses who look charmingly behind the wheel, but oh my, ladies, please follow the rules of traffic. However, I am not sure that older ladies (still in the same pink, but on high heels) driving range rovers have already learn the rules. Please do not take anything personal, dames, but sometimes I wonder whether SHE learnt anything in a driving school or she just painted her nails instead. Driving is not a joke, your mistake can be fatal. By the way, men, don’t think that I forgot about you, you also drive not better! No offense! I am afraid I was brought in the wrong direction. We are not in the city now, but outside, in the uptown…so turn on the volume, relax your brain muscles and enjoy colors, sounds, smells, tastes…

Summer in 3D

All of a sudden you occurred to be in this field of blooming colors. So many things delight your eyes. The translucent beauty of a green leaf, the lazy drone of a bee as it searched for a tempting little wildflower, the musical calls of the birds in the trees, the blue coolness of the lake, funny mooing of the cows, secret whispers of the wind and utterly overwhelming points where sky meets land. Absolutely blinding!

Flowertime

However, you might notice the other picture as well. Something left behind all the beauty. I mean countryside life is not only all that “wows” and “bubbles”, but also hard work. Kyiv uptown lives its own life different from the big city. Every village outside Kyiv has its own style and soul. Most of them look like compact closed societies with rules and no exit for strangers. You have to be attentive to them and try to follow the wave. Villagers are not fond of citiers, they consider us to belong to another class. I know it sounds odd, but it is. I have relatives who live in the village and I feel the barrier. Maybe for you it really sounds strange, but I am not kidding. Perhaps I should clarify that Ukrainian villages have their own history opposite to Western European.  Mildly saying “living in a village was not prestigious”. Many years ago a typical Ukrainian village had one street, shop, one small hospital, a market and a club, that’s all. Thus, when a villager happened to be in a big city with metro and a chain of various shops (not to mention number of streets), theaters and etc., he/she was like a tourist in a completely unknown country. Would you believe it? It is a fact. The only entertainment for villagers was gossiping while sitting at the benches next to their houses. Everybody knows everyone and it is scareful. There is a wish to be not noticed, don’t count on that in a village. There is everywhere a lady who watches you. Surely, it can be beneficial as well. People are more friendly and helpful. Air is cleaner and birds singing louder. Uptown is a little fortress where almost every new life starts, then it grows bigger, need more place and travels beyond. Nothing lasts for a long time, neither relax, nor work. There will be always a point, a dot or …

The Road Waits To Be Explored

My dear little Friends, I am happy to see you browsing through my blog in search of some interesting pictures or stories. It depends on what you are interested more. Thank you in advance for being attentive to my funny chatting with you! I appreciate it a lot! Hugely!

Recently I have seized an opportunity to visit one of the family businesses dealing with cheese production. A lovely experience worth of being shared with you, right? I confess I felt very curious about it and even more than it is allowed. It is a known fact that family businesses during good economic times don’t earn as much money as companies with a more dispersed ownership structure. But when the economy slumps, family firms far outshine their peers. While visiting this small cheese business I came almost to the same conclusion. This family has a good place to work and live. Just look at the surroundings shown in the pictures, isn’t it Heaven? Their house is located in the mountain region. It is calm and no fumes. Imagine how cows roam free in this fresh air and graze in lush pastures of tender grass. There is milk in fresh air and what amazing taste it should have. I tasted that cheese and YUM, it was delicious! I bet you would love it. Choice is big and for every caprice. For a short moment I caught myself of being envy of them. I realized that family business is the best venture where everybody works hard and doesn’t waste time for intrigues. Yeah, exactly, in huge corporate office people do only one thing well, they scheme against each other. They are waiting when you mess it up. Everyone tries to find out whether your salary is not bigger than his/her…and that’s only the tip of an iceberg! Family business concentrates mostly on their profits, thus they understand that team work is important. They are oriented at fulfilling their goals and helping each other. It feels good, isn’t it? I confess I would like the same and who won’t? Working hard in the circle of your family and friends seems ideal to me. And for you? Don’t be shy, tell me…please…please!

I suppose I became so involved with this topic that forgot to introduce you my new idea or, better to say, project. My previous posts have been already devoted to postcards I designed, however, I had no idea what to do further with them. Accidentally I came across some website who offers photographers and designers to sell their creations through their internet shops, I did hesitate a lot before making a decision. I am still not sure whether it was a good idea, but I gave it a try. I place my first postcard and greeting designs officially here:http://www.redbubble.com/people/anrostudio/works/22058357-lake-mirroring

And now would like to present them to you!

I kindly (very very) ask you to let me know whether you like them! My initial plan was to sell my postcards at Ebay and deal with shipping on my own, but I faced high shipping prices and thought that prices for postcards won’t be cheaper than those ones at this webshop. Perhaps you know some better, more personal, solution to this problem. I am grateful for any advice! It seems Redbubble starts printing and shipping in time and provides constant notification of your order.

Card Rabbit

You might ask why I decided to deal with such a competitive field where I have almost no chance, I will reply you that my postcards are yet different from usual ones. Bulk greeting cards business is aimed at earning money, while I almost earn no money since webshop does printing and shipping and takes money for it. My cards give me a possibility to release my creative energy and maybe showing you something what you have not seen yet. These cards are designed firstly in my head and only then typed on a screen. It is a long way to implementation of my dreams and projects intended to brighten every singly moment of life, yours and mine. That is my road to be explored and which is yours???

Love you all,

Tulip Fever & Postcards Stories

Slow Down and Enjoy Your Life

Slow down and enjoy your life. It’s not only the security you miss by going too fast, but also where you are going and why.

Photohunting helps me to slow down and enjoy the moment I am chasing for. An every day almost routine life is too hectic and busy, you are lucky one to grab a minute and think about anything important or even silly, why not? Being able to do it I found myself staring at beautiful images of postcards. It seems to me that postcards have not their best time, since in the era of Internet who needs them. Why should we go to bookstore to pick up a postcard when we can easily do it with one mouse click? Moreover, why should we spend money on it? Postcards or greeting cards for every occasion are available for free in web. It is a pity, indeed. Since there is no link between you and a postcard anymore, you do not do it alone, there is an intermediary between you and your choice. And I even do not mention that fact that we forgot how to hold a pen in our hands, everything is typed. However, how about the originality of each handwriting? Typed letters look the same.  Yeah, there is much to ponder!

Painted Tulips

In 1861, John Charlton of Philadelphia created the first private postal card, called “Lipman’s Postal Card, Patent Applied For.” Government postcards came into the market in 1873. Postcards were novelties because of the pictures and designs that they used. In 1906, Eastman Kodak made a camera called the “Folding Pocket Camera” to create postcards out of photographs. Postcards were not used during World War I, as Germany was one of the main producers of postcards, and there were potential problems such as influenza epidemics spreading across country borders. However, advancing print technology brought about a new age of postcards after World War II. Postcards began to be printed in color, depicting pictures, historical buildings, national parks and exotic sceneries.

Tulips As Art .jpg

Will you believe that there was even “postcarditis” infection caught by many people in the world? Every town, city, and state had their own promotional card; every family counting itself among the middle or upper classes displayed on the parlor table an album bulging with different images.  They believed that their city is the most beautiful!

Tulip and Sunshine.jpg

Every postcard is unique, especially made on your own. Many of you, my Friends, are very talented and professional photographers who make excellent shots, thus your wonderful photos can be easily put into a postcard frame and delivered around the world. It is a good marketing tool. A postcard is better than something in an envelope.  People are fast. We see and read very quickly – actually much more quickly than we even realize. With a postcard, even if prospects throw it away, they already saw your message regardless of whether they think they did or not. They saw it enough to either throw it away or keep it or respond to it.

Trio of Tulips

How many times a usual postcard or a greeting card was used to show your gratitude. Countless. It was long ago before Internet existed. Certainly it took a long way to send a postcard to anyone, but imagine happy faces when the postmen deliver an envelope or a package with something inside…

Strips Tulip

How can you be content to be in the world like tulips in a garden, to make your every day bright and be good for nothing…

Life is Beautiful

Hugs to all of you!

Postcard 2

“How lucky I am to see

The bloom of the white magnolia tree…”

Magnificent Magnolias

Oh beautiful Magnolia, you’re blossoming again.
It’s early Spring and there you are like you have always been.
Your glorious Spring time beauty is wondrous to behold,
But it is such a little while until your blossoms fold.

Postcard Pink Magnolia.jpg

It only seems a day or two from when you’re in full bloom
That petals start to flutter down and leave me with sad gloom
The reason I feel gloomy is that just once each year
I see your gentle beauty, then wait another year.

Pink Postcard

Upon this wondrous earth of ours are many lovely things.
In spring I marveled at the sights the kind your beauty brings.
Oh beautiful magnolia, you are by Heaven blessed.
Spring time has many wonders but you’re one of the best.
