I adore photographing and writing! Let's discover this world together! When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.
What i like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.
A good photograph is one that communicates a fact, touches the heart and leaves the viewer a changed person for having seen it. It is, in a word, effective. Irving Penn
I cannot travel as often as I wish to. Therefore it takes time for planning and realizing. I tend to find my own destinations that are not popular and are unknown. My photocamera and heart brought me here, or, simply saying, my financial possibilities. And so what, I knew that I wanted to visit Alps, why should I spend huge money for the most expensive places. Such places are for those crazy Insta-selfie/Facebook lovers who care for the number of likes. I am in a search for the place that speaks to my heart and change me inside. This time Niedernsill found me…
Please do not forget to check my book on Amazon and my photo Gallery!
My book is on Amazon but it means that this is only the beginning, still much work that should be done. Advertising and marking are two new fields where I am a rookie. However, I can boast about some reviews that have recently appeared in my author page.
I am very grateful for this positive review, it means a lot to me.
I confess that advertising is not that easy as I expected. It takes a lot of efforts and money as well.
Also, you have to study what are the most efficient ways of advertising and marketing. You not only need to attract the readers’ attention but also reach the targeted reader and that’s the most difficult to me. How do I know who would be interested to read my book, people are so different, the same is with their book preferences. A dilemma, isn’t it? I do not give up and I know that the hardest is waiting for me yet.
Until I would like to share with you some excerpts from the first chapter of my book Ukraine, I Wrote About that is available on Amazon as paperback and ebook. Do not forget to have a look (in case you didn’t do it yet)!
In Ukrainian the name of my country sounds as Україна using the Slavic alphabet. If I split this word into two halves, then I get U kraina or U kraini meaning “at the country”. That is it, at my country, I live at my country and I was born at my country. That is pretty simple and clear. I do not need to search for any extra meaning.
Ukrainian historians have already found several hints of how to interpret the name of our country. For instance, Olexander Paliy holds the idea that it was synonymous with “princedom” or “land”. Another Ukrainian historian, Ivan Ogiienko, insists that it was used to name the frontier Pereyaslav land or even other Kyiv lands. The Canadian historian of Ukrainian origin, Orest Subtelnuy, thought that Ukraine geographically meant Kyiv border. Vitalyi Sklyarenko says that the letter “у” in many languages, particularly in Ukrainian, means not close to, but inside. Many Ukrainian researchers are of the opinion that the word “Ukraine” consists of two parts: “kraina” and “u” denoting “home land”, an antonym to “foreign land”.
Today I would like you to let you in… my inner world that is sometimes unknown even for me. This book helped me to reveal that I simply love the country where I was born and where my heart belongs to. These are not words, these are true feelings. While being even far from Ukraine I feel that I am bonded with my motherland. And this bond cannot be broken ever. I will cite you something “Ukraine has its Ann and Ann has her Ukraine“. I guess this one sentence has its all. I never thought that I can love the place where I live so much. I always wanted to travel and perhaps live in the other country, I didn’t suspect that I can be so attached to my Ukraine.
I would not like to tease you or take your time from reading my book…however, reading my book might give you a chance to understand who Ukrainians are, why we live a bit outside from Europe, why we have our hybrid undeclared war with Russia, and what we eat for breakfast (perhaps the most interesting). I tried to present you a full picture without hiding its ugly part (as much as I can) and yet I wanted to make my country attractive to you, as well as invite you to visit it one day.
There will be surprises such as desperate meetings with my Euterpe or spontaneous outpouring of emotions (funny or serious). One more bonus is that you will not only be able to chat with Ann while flipping through my book, but also enjoy the illustrations created to entertain you.
Anyway, do not consider me immodest please, I am sure that “Ukraine, I Wrote About” won’t let you indifferent…
Hope to find you, my little Friends, among my Readers! Your reviews are the best reward for my work! It means a lot to me! Please spread a word on my book!
Today is the last summer day and I felt an urgent need to chat with you. And as you might now a good chat is always accompanied by a brewing cup of … coffee.
“As long as there was coffee in the world, how bad could things be?” Cassandra Clare, City of Ashes
It is indeed, my Friends. Thus a cup of coffee may not be only a bitter and hot drink that ignites your brain, but also a good way of entertainment and selfie. Yeah, yeah, you heard me right! There is a new terrific place in L’viv, the city of lions and everything Ukrainian, where you are able to drink a cup of great coffee with your picture in the foam. Aren’t you curious? I bet, you are.
How does it work? Pretty simple. You come there and order a cup of selfie coffee. A very friendly waiter will ask for your selfie or offer to make it with his phone, and volla … in some minutes you are served with a cup of your selfie coffee!
One of the new options is a very delicious hamburger made of fresh beef and vegetables that suits perfectly to your selfie drink.
A mouthwatering image that still chases my mind. Though I confess that it was huge for me and I hardly ate it.
Anyway, it is perfect final note of my summer rhapsody, I am ready to say goodbye to this hot (temperature didn’t decrease much yet) and sultry summer. I don’t know how about you, my Friends, but I am looking forward to meeting first cool autumn days when the nature takes its best outfits. In anticipation of my autumn photo sessions…would you like to join me?
In my mind I am still in Alps and I would like that my journey goes on…
From my travel journal “ANROALISTIC PHOTOJOURNEY TO NIEDENRSILL”:
Travelling still means money…at least, for Ukrainians…
I bet many of you cannot afford a lot of travelling as it costs money. Yes, it is, and sometimes not small money, especially for Ukrainians who live for salary or, better to say, survive. Nowadays travelling, even if planned beforehand, means saved money that can be freely spent. I have a feeling that not everyone in EU or US can also have extra money for travel. Many of us have bills and credits to pay, thus we have to think before spending a hard-earned cent. However, world develops so fast that everything looks easier now. Have you ever heard of low-budget travelling?
That’s it. This seems to be a new concept that has already worked for many tourists. Not everyone is ready to face its disadvantages as cheap flights, snoring or noisy neighbors at hostels, and tiredness from long-walks. Let yourself imagine all the advantages of such way of travelling. The number one is that you will be able to discover the places that you saw only on the pages of your favorite travel guide. The second, not less important, is that you are likely to meet new people who speak different language, but with whom you will certainly make good friends. At last, you will experience the enchanted moments of face-to-face lovely talks. Social networks cannot replace face-to-face chats. Thirdly, while traveling on a low budget you will appreciate the little things such as hot meals, soft beds, transportation after a few hours of waiting. Finally, you will pass a test for any unpredictable situations and explore yourself. Some of you may fall in love even. That’s what low-budget travelling can offer you. It is not a perfect solution, but an option. The choice is yours. All I want to say is that our wishes must not have any restrictions. I vote for “nothing is impossible to a willing heart”.
Where are you now, my Friends? Any news? I’ve got news – I am holding the proof of my book…
Do you have a garden? If yes, this year you might suffer from…apple flood. At a first glance, it may seem like a real blessing, your trees gave generous harvests. At a second glance, you can find yourself surrounded by apples that are falling and falling…you don’t know what to do with them and you may be scared even…
No worries, today I will show you a couple of tricks how to gather your apples and store them for winter. Nope, my Friends, suggestions aka hamster method (you know that they put everything at once into their mouth) are not acceptable. We are human beings, aren’t we? So, we need to be more practical and caring.
Nobody likes gathering apples that are spoiled already. It can mainly happen due to their fall from a high tree. They are simple broken. Thus, there is a special apple catcher that will not only help you gather apples in their best shape, but will reach the top of the world…em…excuse me, the top of your apple tree. Practical and simple! Every apple is saved!
Ukrainians crazy about apple jams that are opened during cold winter days. Sweet and tasty jams can remind you of warm and sunny summer days spent in your garden. Do not be lazy, gather apples, wash/cut them, add sugar, boil them a bit, and volla!
One of the most efficient and cheap methods to keep your apples tasty and healthy is to dry them. Let us prepare dried apples. You cannot imagine how delicious dried apples are, especially if you spent a lot of time for slicing them on your own. Extra taste! Genius, isn’t it?
In Ukraine we also make apple purees that are perfectly stored in our freezers. No sugar, no juice, just blended puree in your freezer. No vitamins loss, brilliant!
So, how’s your apple flood? Can you deal with it now?
Looking forward to hearing whether you liked my photoharvesting.
Enjoy your weekend!
Love you all,
P.S. Let me know what other topics might be interesting to read for you? I am open to new challenges!
Thank you, my dear Maverick and my dear Carole for your kind comments on my previous post! I was happy to bring you with me!
And my journey goes on…
“Look and think before opening the shutter. The heart and mind are the true lens of the camera (Yousuf Karsh).
It is only five o’clock in the morning. But my mind revolves as on a pivot. My head is aching strongly as if somebody put something heave on it. I try to lift it from my soft welcoming pillow, but it falls heavily back. My eyelids flicker open to the sunlit room and the morning light trickles in through the blinds. I close my eyelids again. Shedding myself of the remaining glimpses of a dream, my eyes were still shut as I soaked in the warmth of my covers before letting my green eyes see the sun’s rays. The tasks of the day became demanding and I think about them. I slowly turn my head to the clock standing on the night table. I check the time and wondered why I am awake at such an early hour. No sleepiness, no slow warming up. Within seconds of realizing I am on my feet, eyes wide, and dreams not just forgotten but erased. The sleepy girl sits up, drags her feet off the bed, and rubs her knuckles onto her eyes. I watch my legs dangle above the brown old carpet. How oddly exciting I felt when I opened my shutter and saw this view.
The late night I got there by car and saw nothing around me. It was pitch-dark: I couldn’t see my hand before my face. But now I understood that I woke up in the other world. As if I turned my flying machine on and landed on the other planet. Sounds crazy, right? But that’s how I felt. The view was so stunning that I did not trust my eyes. The more I was standing on the porch in my red sleeping gown, the more excitedly my heart bet. I could not believe that such beautiful places exist. Even more I could not believe that I was there and everything what I saw was real. I did not look at the advertising pictures in the travel magazine, I saw them in reality. That’s what traveling gives us, it allows us to discover what this wonderful world has to offer. Just think that you might never see this place, you may never experience the excitement of new things, or never be amazed by simple and yet surprising joys of life. Just think!
Where was your last journey? Do you read travel magazines?
Please make me happy and leave your comments! Remember that you can be featured in my next post!
I am excited to announce a new series of posts based on my journal notes made in Alps. Everything I saw, felt, experienced, liked and disliked. Only my thoughts and only for you…
“When I travel I explore…myself. Curious wanderer. That’s how I would describe myself, my life right now. I have wandering soul hungry for a perfect place, an ideal moment, and a great shot. My wandering soul brought me there. A little village between Austrian Alps is not in the must-visit places, but I found there something that none of famous mountains resorts can offer me…”
And where is your wandering soul this summer?
I appreciate every comment and every like! I write because you read!
Let me know what you think of it?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. The most interesting thought will be rewarded in my every post!
Summer is the best season for our health since the choice of vegetables and fruits is the largest one. So many vitamins in one plate. Who would know that cucumber is one of the oldest cultivated crop, originated mainly in northern India. Cucumbers are excellent source of vitamins K, C and different B vitamins. They are also very good source of sodium, copper, amino acids, carbohydrates, soluble and insoluble fiber content. It is no wonder that your skin will look great after smashing yourself with a piece of cucumber.
The word “radish” comes from the Latin “radix,” meaning “root,” and the Greek word “raphanus,” which translates to “quickly appearing”. Well, I did recognize it, radishes were the first in my garden! Radishes contain significant amounts of vitamin C and several other vitamins and minerals. I love radishes, they are my favorite red buddies!
Mister Onion is the main at my plate. Onions have been used as food for thousands of years; in ancient Egypt, they were worshiped and used in burial rituals. Onion helps killing microbes in your body, a good disinfector as well, not to mention that it contains a lot of vitamins and minerals! Onions kisses…muuah!
Stay in tune for more veggies and fruits from my garden and many fun facts about them!
